How Do Golden Chips Work?

Some live casino offers give you Golden Chips instead of free spins. This guide shows you what they're worth and where to put them.

Golden Chips look simple, but £5 of chips isn't worth £5.

As with a free bet, you keep what a chip wins, but never the chip itself.

Put them in the right place, and a typical offer leaves you £2.97 ahead, on average. Let's go!

What's a Golden Chip?

It's a free chip for a live casino table. Put it on a bet, and if the bet wins, you keep the winnings. Win or lose, the chip goes back to the casino.

Say you put a £1 chip on red:

Red comes up: you get £1

Black or zero comes up: you get nothing

So a chip is worth less than it says on it. The bigger the win you go for, the more it's worth on average, but the more often it wins nothing.

Where to put your chips

For each £1 chip on a standard roulette table:

65p

Six numbers

The further down the table, the more each chip is worth on average.

We go for the middle: put your chips on the 1st 12 over several spins, until they're all used. Your offer guide says how many to put on each spin. If the ball lands on 1 to 12, each £1 of chips wins £2. This is the sweet spot between a reasonable chance to win (32%) and a nice average payout (65p).

Your average profit: £2.97

A typical offer looks like this:

  • Wager £10 on live roulette, get £5 in Golden Chips.

Roulette pays back 97.3% of what you wager, so your £10 costs you 27p on average. Your £5 of chips on the 1st 12 win £3.24 on average:

-27p + £3.24 = £2.97 profit

Is this guaranteed?

No. £2.97 is the average. Spread over five spins, all five miss and win nothing about 1 time in 7. Across many offers, your results tend to land close to the average.

Rules to follow

  • Spread your chips over five spins or more. Put them all on one spin, and they all lose about 2 times in 3.
  • Use every chip before you withdraw. Some casinos hold what your chips win until they're all used.
  • Use your chips in time. Each offer's guide gives its time limit.
  • Pick a standard roulette table with one zero. The figures in this guide are for that table.
